Rough-legged Hawk at Calverton

This video shows two  Rough-legged Hawks on winter territory at two of the few remaining grasslands of southeastern New York State. Grasslands are becoming rare, as land use has changed from farming and open space to business and housing.

The powered flight of this light phase Rough-leg is shown first at normal speed, and then in slow motion.  Look for the dark carpel patches and dark belly.  The hover flight at the end of the video is typical of Rough-legs when hunting.
