Swift Fox at Pawnee

Swift Fox on the prairie at Pawnee National Grasslands in Colorado
June 2009

A story of success:
A small speedy fox, the Swift Fox was once numerous in the Great Plains.  Populations declined so dramatically, as a result of  human activites
, that the Swift Fox was added to the US Endangered Species list.   With protected status, populations recovered sufficiently to be removed from that list.  It is still considered endangered in Canada, where  reintroduction efforts continue.
