Purpose

The purpose of the Hawk Watching Forum is to serve the many volunteers who contribute to hawk watching.  You contribute to the fun of watching the dynamic raptors that migrate overhead, and you contribute to the collection of count data that helps us to assess the trends of these species.  In these ways you contribute significantly to their conservation.  This forum offers a means to share more than just the count numbers.  We encourage you to tell your hawk watching stories, both recent and from years ago.  Recent information is fun to read and share, especially for those who cannot be at the watch.  It also can be very helpful to other watchers.  Providing distinguishing characteristics of a local raptor, for example, can help us determine if a hawk is a local or a migrant.  Stories from years ago can help us develop a history of the watch site.

Membership to this forum is limited to hawk watchers and people interested in raptor behavior.  The forum is designed for hawk watchers from Hook Mountain and Fire Island watch sites.  We invite hawk watchers from other sites to participate as well.  To join the forum, you must be added by the moderator.  Simply send an email to gbattaly@battaly.com   Include your name, your hawk watch site, and any particular user name (eg: iloveraptors) you chose to use for your comments on the forum.  When you have been added to the list you will receive an email indicating that you are successfully registered.  Alternatively, you may go to the link below and register.  Use your hawk watch site as the location.  You will not have access to the forum, but the moderator will receive an email, check your email address with the coordinator of your watch, and add you to the list.
